What is lot and block?
Also called: recorded plat description
Definition
Lot and block is a legal description that identifies a parcel by its lot and block numbers on a subdivision plat recorded with the county.
Once a plat is recorded, deeds can describe a parcel simply as "Lot 12, Block 4" of the named subdivision, referring to the plat book and page. It is the usual description for homes in planned subdivisions.
How it shows up in a title search
In many county indexes, documents can be searched by subdivision, lot and block, which catches instruments filed under misspelled owner names.
