New York LLC lookup

Enter a New York LLC or corporation name. The lookup searches New York Department of State entity records (active entities and the name history of inactive ones) and shows the DOS ID, entity type, jurisdiction, first filing date, county and the address where the State forwards legal papers, then lists the properties recorded to that exact name in the City Register's records, on NYC housing agency building registrations and on the assessment rolls of every county outside New York City.

Business names only (LLC, Inc., Corp., LP). We do not search for people. The first 5 results of each list are free; HeritageDeed Pro shows them all. Usually under ten seconds.

What New York publishes about an LLC

New York's registry does not list members or managers. The Articles of Organization give the name, the county, and the address to which the Secretary of State mails legal papers served on the LLC; often that is a registered agent company such as a corporate service firm. For a business corporation the registry also lists the chief executive officer.

Who is behind a New York LLC usually shows up in its property records instead: the deeds and mortgages it signed (the City Register's records index the party names; the document images show the signatures), and, for residential buildings in New York City, the housing agency registration, which must name a head officer for a corporate owner.

Can you see who the members of an LLC are?

Usually not from a state registry. New York, Colorado and Oregon do not publish an LLC's members. Texas lists officers, managers or directors on the Public Information Report each entity files with the Comptroller. Pennsylvania lists the officers or governors an entity named in its filings, and Connecticut lists the principals from the annual report. Those people are shown here as initials.

The fullest public trail of who acts for an LLC is often the property record: the person who signed the deed, the mortgage or the transfer declaration for it, and the people named on a NYC building registration. A title report reads those documents in full.

Questions

How do I look up an LLC in New York?

Enter the LLC's name. The lookup returns the Department of State record (DOS ID, entity type, jurisdiction, first filing date, county, service of process address) and, for names no longer active, the latest status from the State's filing history, plus the NYC and New York State property records under that exact name.

Does New York list LLC members?

No. New York does not publish an LLC's members or managers. The registry shows the address for service of process; for business corporations it lists the chief executive officer.

How can I find who owns an LLC in New York City?

Look at its buildings: the NYC housing agency (HPD) requires the owner of every building with three or more apartments to register each year, naming a head officer and officers for a corporate owner, and the deeds and mortgages in the City Register's records show who signed for the LLC. The lookup lists both, with people shown as initials.

What is a DOS ID?

The Department of State's identification number for a corporation, LLC or partnership. It stays the same when the entity changes its name, so a former name and the current name share one DOS ID.

Why does an LLC not appear on the active list?

It may have dissolved, been inactivated by the State, merged, or changed its name. The lookup then shows the name from the State's name history with the latest status filing on record.
