What Texas publishes about an LLC
The Texas Secretary of State keeps the formation filings, and the Comptroller of Public Accounts keeps each entity's franchise tax account status. The Comptroller's account record shows the registered agent and the information from the most recent Public Information Report, which names the officers, directors, managers or general partners.
Right to transact business "Active" means the entity is in good standing for franchise tax. "Forfeited" means the Comptroller forfeited that right, usually for a franchise tax report or payment that was not filed; the entity can be reinstated.
To find the properties a Texas LLC owns, the county appraisal rolls list owners by name; or enter a Texas property address here to see its owner of record on the appraisal roll.
Questions
How do I look up an LLC in Texas?
Enter the LLC's name. The lookup returns the Texas franchise tax record: taxpayer number, SOS file number, charter date, entity type, SOS status and right to transact business. The Comptroller's account record also lists the registered agent and the officers or managers from the latest Public Information Report.
Is the Texas LLC search free?
Yes. This lookup is free. Texas charges a statutory fee for searches of the Secretary of State's filing records, and an official certified copy from the filing office is the answer for a closing.
How do I find out who owns an LLC in Texas?
Texas LLCs file a Public Information Report each year naming their officers, directors, managers or members who manage it. The Comptroller's account record shows it. The deed and deed of trust for each property name who signed for the LLC.
What does "right to transact business: forfeited" mean?
The Comptroller forfeited the entity's right to transact business in Texas, usually for a franchise tax report or payment that was not filed. The entity is not dissolved by that alone; it can be reinstated by filing the missing reports and paying.
Why is my Texas LLC not found?
The lookup covers active franchise taxpayers. An entity that has ended its franchise tax responsibility (dissolved, terminated, merged) or a name typed differently from the registration will not appear. The Secretary of State's filing office holds the full history.
